Chamber Music Series 2
Ludwig van Beethoven’s favorite book was an almanac of daily essays on natural and scientific wonders: “the workings of the eye, discoveries in a microscope, the phenomenon of storms...” His string quartet no. 13 with “Grosse Fuge” explores an equally wondrous variety of musical worlds. The New York Classical Players perform this late period masterwork, preceded by recitations from the Library’s rare 19th century copy of C.C. Sturm's Reflections On the Works of God, and His Providence Throughout All Nature, Beethoven’s favorite book.
BEETHOVEN / String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat major, Op. 130
BEETHOVEN / Große Fuge, Op. 133
