Immortal Beethoven 2 - May 29, Saturday, 8PM (EST)
Dongmin Kim conductor
HaeSun Paik piano
The Los Angeles Times called HaeSun Paik “a sensitive and thinking musician with stunning virtuosity” – and NYCP audiences will recall HaeSun’s intrepid quest to perform all five Beethoven piano concertos with the ensemble over three seasons. In NYCP’s final two concerts of the season, Ms. Paik completes the challenge with performances of Beethoven’s Second and Fifth (and last) piano concertos on May 15 and May 29. The more whimsical Second Concerto contrasts sharply with the dramatic Fifth Concerto. Known as the Emperor Concerto, the piece begins with one of Beethoven’s most stunning opening movements, in which the piano envelopes the orchestra in blazing flourishes and musical fireworks.
