Upholding NYCP’s core values of universal accessibility and community service, we remain dedicated to delivering high-caliber classical music performances for New Yorkers - all absolutely free - because we believe that music should be for everyone.

The 2023-24 Season Highlight

  • Presenting 22 musical events across Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, and New Jersey, including our inaugural performance in Brooklyn.

  • Introducing 6 contemporary pieces with 3 premieres from Adler, Nathan, and Grosshandler.

  • Embarking on a Pacific Northwest Tour featuring Van Cliburn Competition winner pianist Yekwon Sunwoo in collaboration with acclaimed Emerald City Music.

  • A Residency at Brown University, encompassing a runout concert and educational activities, benefits music composition students.

LEGACY & INNOVATION (Sep 29-Oct 1)

Embark on a captivating musical journey with our 2023-24 season opener. NYCP presents a blend of masterpieces and innovative contemporary compositions, featuring glowing young violinist Sammy Andonian's solo on Schubert's Rondo Brillant. The program includes the premiere of living legend Samuel Adler's Concertino No. 4, Beethoven's groundbreaking Grosse Fuge, and Glass's striking minimal work, Quartet Satz. The evening culminates with Beethoven's powerful Serioso, his string quartet Op.95.


YEKWON ON CHOPIN (Nov 3-5)

Indulge in the mastery of distinguished pianist and Van Cliburn competition laureate Yekwon Sunwoo as he soulfully performs Chopin's 2nd Piano Concerto, showcasing his remarkable artistry. The evening's program begins with David Ludwig's brilliant Moto perpetuo for solo violin, followed by Tchaikovsky's profoundly poignant Pezzo Capriccioso. The night concludes with Tchaikovsky's iconic Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48.


PACIFIC NORTHWEST TOUR (Nov 10-11)

Experience the dazzling artistry of celebrated pianist and Van Cliburn competition laureate, Yekwon Sunwoo presented by Seattle's captivating concert series, Emerald City Music. Embark on a mesmerizing musical journey with Sunwoo, as he skillfully interprets Chopin's passionate 2nd Piano Concerto. The program also features David Ludwig's virtuosic Moto perpetuo for solo violin and Tchaikovsky's emotive Pezzo Capriccioso, before reaching its zenith with Tchaikovsky's iconic Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48.


JASMINE IN RECITAL (Nov 16-17)

Join NYCP Chamber Music Series with returning superstar flutist Jasmine Choi. A former Artist-in-Residence, Jasmine enchants audiences alongside renowned pianist ChangYong Shin. The exceptional program features works by Faure, Beethoven, Schoenfield, Yun, and Prokofiev. Enter the captivating recital realm, where enchanting performances create inspiring moments that linger long after the night's final notes.


WEIMAR MUSIC, SOUNDS OF A PERICLEAN AGE (Feb 23-24)

Immerse yourself in the captivating music of the Weimar Republic at the NYCP Chamber Music Series in partnership with Carnegie Hall and the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Experience Hindemith's emotive Piano Sonata No. 2 and String Trio No. 1, followed by Korngold's innovative Suite for Left Hand Piano and Strings. Celebrate the rich artistic heritage of the Weimar Republic era through the chamber music mastery performed by NYCP at the stunning Bruno Walter Auditorium, and new vibrant musical hub, Fort Lee Music Hall.


STELLA & MOZART (Mar 1-3)

Our esteemed Artist-in-Residence, renowned violinist Stella Chen, will be performing two captivating violin concertos by Mozart. Opening with the sophisticated 1st Violin Concerto, followed by her collaboration with celebrated violist Matthew Lipman to deliver the audience-favorite Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. Under the direction of Dongmin Kim, NYCP is poised to bring Haydn's vivacious Symphony No. 43, Mercury, to life.

BROWN RESIDENCY - RUNOUT TO BROWN (Apr 11)

NYCP is thrilled to be at Brown University for a runout concert, featuring the Double Concerto No. 2 for Two Violas, by Eric Nathan, with celebrated violists Misha Amory and Hsin-Yun Huang as soloists. NYCP revisits Nathan's Omaggio a Gesualdo, which pays tribute to the renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo. The program opens with barrier-breaking composer William Grant Still's Mother and Child, an elegant, emotional portrayal of motherhood. Final piece on Schubert's beloved Death and the Maiden, known for its emotional depth and intensity.


NATHAN & SCHUBERT (Apr 19-20)

Presenting a dynamic program that commences with a pioneering American composer William Grant Still's Mother and Child, a piece of rich and elegant depiction of motherhood. The spotlight shines on two living American composers: Seth Grosshandler's Concertino for Cello, featuring the accomplished cellist Madeline Fayette, and Eric Nathan's Double Concerto for Two Violas by esteemed violists Misha Amory and Hsin-Yun Huang as soloists. Concluding the program is Schubert's much-admired Death and the Maiden, renowned for its profound emotional depth and intensity.


AN AFFIRMING FLAME (Apr 25-26)

Join the final Chamber Music Series where NYCP presents Benjamin Britten's String Quartet No. 1, a piece written while Britten was living in New York at the beginning of World War II. The program pairs this with recitations of poetry and correspondence from the New York Public Library's W. H. Auden archive and concludes with a performance of Dimitri Shostakovitch's tragic war memorial, String Quartet No. 8.


BROWN RESIDENCY (May 2-3)

During our Residency at Brown University, NYCP conducts vibrant composition reading sessions, specifically designed for students majoring in music composition. These sessions not only offer a unique insight into the art of composing for the budding musicians at Brown, but also cultivate an environment where creativity can bloom and thrive.


NEW YORK CLASSICAL PLAYERS

New York City’s outstanding young chamber orchestra, the New York Classical Players is an ensemble dedicated to the highest standards of artistry, collaboration, and virtuosity. Under the leadership of music director Dongmin Kim, the group performs across the United States, in South America and in Asia.  Dongmin Kim is quickly establishing himself as one of the most inspiring and versatile conductors. His recent and upcoming engagements on the world's prestigious stages include Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Herbst Theatre, Faulkner Performing Arts Center, Seoul Arts Center, and the Lotte Concert Hall, to name a few.

Since founding NYCP in 2010, Mr. Kim has led the group in over 200 concerts including a US tour with superstar soprano Sumi Jo and a host of prominent artists have appeared with the orchestra including Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Kim Kashkashian, Pamela Frank, Charles Neidich, Peter Wiley, Chee-Yun, Stefan Jackiw, Jasmine Choi, and Richard O'Neill.
